AUGUSTA — Maine Gov. Paul LePage is preparing to deliver his third State of the State address that’s likely to tout improvements in Maine’s economy under his watch and focus on efforts to reform the state’s welfare programs.
LePage will deliver his speech Tuesday before the Democratic-controlled Legislature that frequently clashes with the Republican governor and is once again attempting to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act against his wishes.
LePage is expected to lay out priorities such as addressing drug-related crimes and keeping young people in Maine. His election-year speech will also likely focus on Maine’s declining unemployment rate.
On Monday, Democratic leaders dismissed the idea that the economy has improved under his administration and called on the governor to offer real solutions to create jobs and help the poor.
