FARMINGTON — Franklin County Detective Kenneth Charles was recognized as Deputy of the Year and Deputy of the Quarter at the county commissioners meeting Tuesday.
Lt. Detective David St. Laurent presented Charles, of Farmington, a framed certificate as Deputy of the Quarter.
Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. presented him with a plaque that recognizes him as the Deputy of the Year for 2013.
Charles’ wife, Anne, and daughters, Meghan and Emma, celebrated the occasion with him.
Charles and his brother, Stephen Charles, were promoted from corporals to detectives in June 2013.
Both Nichols and St. Laurent said Charles has done “excellent work” for the department.
St. Laurent said Charles has worked on several search warrants and high-profile cases.
He’s widely respected by law enforcement, not only in Franklin County, but throughout Western Maine, Nichols said.
Nichols also presented longtime county dispatcher Janet Rackliff of East Dixfield with a retirement plaque. She held the position for 20 years and retired Dec. 31. Rackliff’s husband, Dennis, and son, Blaine, who also is a dispatcher for the county Communications Center, attended the presentation.
Nichols commended Janet Rackliff for a job well done.
“I’m staying part time so I can help,” she said.
