1931 – 2014
FARMINGTON — William E. Cook, 82, a former resident of Jay and Skowhegan, died Friday, Jan. 31, at Orchard Park Nursing Home in Farmington.
He was born in Jay on Oct. 30, 1931, the son of Erwin L. Cook and Elsie (Searles) Cook, and attended school in Jay. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Following his return from the service, William worked in the local shoe shops, later driving trucks for many years for Jack Garrahan Fairs and retired from Brackley Novelty Mill in Strong. After his retirement, he worked for several years delivering newspapers for Sun Journal. William enjoyed hunting and fairs.
He is survived by his brother, Reginald Cook and his wife, Sandra, of Jay; his sister, Betty Goglia, of Rangeley and Punta Gorda, Fla.; his longtime companion, Marjorie Bennett, of Skowhegan; 11 stepchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wives, Dorothy (White) Cook, Faye (Ellis) Cook and Leora (Phillips) Cook; his brother, Alan “Skeeter” Cook; and his sister, Mary Ellen True.
