AUBURN — The St. Dominic Academy Saints found their offensive rhythm in a 7-2 victory over the Thornton Academy Golden Trojans on Thursday afternoon.

The Saints scored two play goals and got two-goal efforts from Austin Roy and Dillon Pratt.

“It didn’t start out to fast or pretty, but we are fortunate to pull off 2-0 lead after the first period,” St. Dom’s head coach Steve Ouellette said. “We got a lot of production of a lot of different people and we took control in the second.”

The first goal for St. Dom’s wasn’t a power-play goal but it came right after a power play ended. Chase Hainey shot above the right circle hit Thornton Academy’s goaltender Andrew Huot. The rebound landed on Caleb Labrie’s stick, who backhanded it into the half open net.

Bryan Bonenfant picked up the secondary assist 5:58 into the first period.

Dillon Pratt extended the Saints lead right before the first period ended as he drove to the net with under two seconds remaining. It was the first power play maker for the Saints. Matt Chasse picked up the lone assist.

St. Dom’s picked up their third power-play chance on the goal as a penalty was called on Thornton before the goal was actually scored.

Ouellette said they were aggressive on the fore check that allowed them to fire 12 shots on goal in the first period.

In the second period, the Saints went on a 5-on-3 power play 21 seconds in. They converted their second power-play goal 2:09 into the period when Austin Roy found the back of the net for his first goal of the period. Assists went to Dillon Pratt and Bryan Bonenfant.

Caleb Labrie crashed the net to extend the Saints lead to 4-0 3:48 into the middle frame. Assists went to Brad Berube and Chase Hainey. Hainey made it 5-0 just past the halfway mark of the period. Berube was credited with the lone assist.

“We are getting a lot more contributions from different people,” Ouellette added. “We have Austin Roy who’s putting the puck into the net. Dillon Pratt had a good night and Chase Hainey got himself a goal and a couple of assists here. You got a lot of different people on the score sheet.”

Ouellette said there still needs to be work done in the team’s defensive zone, but the defenders are getting better by the day.

The goal ended Andrew Huot’s night in goal for the Golden Trojans. He made 12 saves on 17 shots. His replacement Oliwer Hogberg-Karlsson made nine saves in relief

Alex Fallon put Thornton Academy on the board at the 10-minute mark of the second period. Austin Roy answered for the Saints seconds later to stretch the lead to 6-1.

Owen Lemoine picked up Thornton’s second goal of the game with Alex Fallon picking up the assist.

Dillon Pratt picked up his second goal of the contest with 4:29 remaining in the game. Jon Sturgis was credited with the lone assist.

Ouellette liked how his team responded when Thornton scored.

“When they got that second goal, they looked like they were starting to play well,” Ouellette said. “Fortunately, we responded really quick on that one.”

Thornton Academy was 0-for-3 on the man advantage while Caleb Dostie made 10 saves in goal for the Saints.
