1932 – 2014

RUMFORD — Frances M. Miller, 82, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, Feb. 8, surrounded by her loving family.

Frances was born in Rumford on Jan. 29, 1932, the daughter of James and Elizabeth Bulger. She attended Rumford schools and graduated from Stephens High School in 1950. Frances worked for many years at the Greater Rumford Community Center and Maine National Bank.

Frances was dedicated to her community and volunteered for many organizations, including Literacy Volunteers, Santa’s Helpers and the Hope Association. A devout Catholic, Frances was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius-St. John Church and was active in the Daughters of Isabella.

She married Robert J. “Bob” Miller in Rumford on Sept. 6, 1954; Bob died in Brewer on Oct. 17, 2005. Frances was a devoted wife and loving mother. She cherished her family and shared a special bond with her late sister, Marjorie Fergola. Frances loved her family and delighted in family gatherings and frequent visits with extensive family. In later years, Frances enjoyed the companionship of her faithful dog, Lizzie.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Barbara and her husband, Dave McGuan, of Brunswick; four sons, Brian and his wife, Sheri, of Lakeland, Fla., Barry and his wife, Pam, of Rumford, Bruce and his wife, Joan, of Turner and Bennett and his wife, Lori, of Manchester; and nine grandchildren, Kyle McGuan and his spouse, Julien, of Paris, France, Erin McGuan of Houlton, Ian Miller of Brookline, Mass., Kera Miller of Rumford, Megan McBreairty and spouse, Drake, of Quantico, Va., Nathan Miller of Turner and Seth, Christine and Patrick Miller of Manchester. Frances also leaves behind many cherished in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Frances was predeceased by a grandson, Corey Miller; sisters, Agnes Thurston and Marjorie Fergola; and brothers, Chet, Charlie, Eddie and Ray Bulger.

Frances’ family would like to thank Margaret McNeal and her staff, as well as the staff at Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, for providing wonderful care and companionship.
