LITCHFIELD — Kennebec Land Trust will hold the following events.

The Holman Winter Hike or Snowshoe will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the Holman Conservation Area carriage trails in Litchfield.

The event is in celebration of Great Maine Outdoor Weekend. Meet Kennebec Land Trust staff and volunteers at the Melanie Lane trail head off of Upper Pond Road. Thanks to the group Winthrop Plays Outside, snowshoes for children and adults will be available on a first come, first served basis. Snow date is Saturday, Feb. 22, at 11 a.m.

A Kennebec Woodland Partnership and KLT program, “Planning for Woodland Stewardship: Successful Timber Harvests, Tree Growth and Open Space Tax Programs,” is set for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, March 10, at Augusta Viles Arboretum.

The March 10 program will be “Planning a Timber Harvest.” Morten Moesswilde, forester, Maine Forest Service District, will be the speaker. A Feb. 10 program was on “Forest Management Plans and Tree Growth: Why have a plan?” There is no fee but attendees are asked to preregister by emailing morten.moesswilde@maine.gov or calling 441-2895.

The Kennebec Land Trust Open House will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 2, at its new office at 331 Main St., Winthrop.

Attendees may check out the resource library, enjoy refreshments and preregister for 2014 programs and field trips.

2014 Lyceum

The 2014 Kennebec Land Trust Lyceum will focus on “Birds, Fish, and Butterflies: The Breeding and Foraging Habitats of Some Maine Migrants.” Sessions are as follows and will be held at the Ladd Recreation Center, Wayne.

“The Ecology of Maine Migratory Butterflies,” 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, with Herb Wilson, professor of biology, Colby College.

“Ecological Recovery in the Kennebec Watershed: Fish passage and Habitat Recovery,” 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, March 27, with John Lichter, professor of biology, Bowdoin College.

“Birdlife in the Gulf of Maine: What are the Challenges Facing Birds in our Region?,” 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, April 3, with Rebecca Holberton, professor of biology, University of Maine.

Snow date for all Lyceum events is Thursday, April 10.
