BETHEL — A 9-year-old Massachusetts boy was injured Tuesday morning when his mother lost control of the snowmobile they were riding.
Ann Vinton, 47, of South Weymouth, Mass., was driving a rented snowmobile with her son as a passenger, Maine Warden Service spokesman Cpl. John MacDonald said Tuesday afternoon in a news release.
Vinton lost control of the machine, which left the trail and struck several small trees at approximately 9:48 a.m. near Rabbit Road on the Woodstock/Bethel line, he said.
Her son, whom MacDonald didn’t identify, suffered facial cuts from his helmet visor, he said. The boy’s mother was not injured.
The boy was taken by Bethel Rescue to Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway where he was treated and released, he said.
Vinton was riding with her husband and second child who were on another snowmobile.
Investigating game wardens told MacDonald that operator experience was a contributing factor in the accident. No charges are expected.
Bethel firefighters assisted.
