1946 – 2014

AUBURN — Lorraine P. Groves, 67, of Hogan Road in Lewiston, died Friday, Feb. 14, surrounded by her loving family at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, following a 23-year battle with breast cancer.

Born in Lewiston on Aug. 1, 1946, she was the daughter of Fernand and Lucielle Levasseur LaRochelle. She was a graduate of Lewiston High School, Class of 1964, and from the Maine School of Practical Nursing in Waterville, Class of 1966. Through the years, she worked at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, the Lewiston-Auburn Kidney Center, Central Maine Medical Center and Bell Label. She retired from the Bates College bookstore in 2012, due to her illness.

Lorraine was an inspiration to others fighting cancer. She adored her two grandchildren and loved attending their activities. She enjoyed traveling — especially to Arizona, gardening, going to the ocean, going to events at Bates College and spending time with family and friends.

She was predeceased by her second husband, Robert E. Groves, who passed away on Oct. 21, 1996.

The family would like to thank Dr. Nicholette Erickson, the staff on M1 at Central Maine Medical Center and at the Hospice House, as well as Elaine Hackett, Jean Lessard, Rachel Cote, Claire Lavallee and so many other caring friends, family and neighbors who helped Lorraine throughout her illness.
