1935 – 2014

AUBURN — Marilyn M. “Bud” Logan, 78, a longtime Auburn resident, passed away Monday morning, Feb. 17, at Clover Manor.

She was born in Lewiston on Sept. 24, 1935, a daughter of Richard and Dorothy (Bumpus) Merriam. She was educated in local schools, graduating from Edward Little High School and Farmington State Teachers’ College, where she attained her bachelor’s degree in education. She began working in the Auburn school system and remained a lifelong resident of this community.

On June 30, 1960, she married Ronald Logan. Together as school teachers and education administrators, they settled on Vining Street in Auburn to work and raise their two boys, Chris and Andy.

Bud was a school teacher for more than 40 years with both the city of Auburn and town of Monmouth. She taught grades four through six in the Auburn system for well over 20 years and then spent 16 years in the Monmouth system, until her retirement. The latter 24 years were also spent working with her good friend and teaching partner, Bob Driscoll. She was a member of West Auburn Congregational Church.

Bud was dedicated to her profession and cared greatly about the personal success of her students. Being as involved as she was, for a few years she even chaperoned trips to Ireland with her sixth-grade students.

Among Bud’s most favorite enjoyments were special times with family and friends, and spending many summers at the family camp on Bailey Island and in East Machias on Hadley Lake.

She was a loving, devoted and hard-working wife, mother and grandmother, who will be dearly missed.

She leaves two sons, Christopher Logan and his companion, Renee Monnier, of Gardiner and Andrew Logan and his companion, Karen Files, of Poland; two grandsons, Cyrus Logan and Conor Sweeney; two sisters, Margaret Ellsworth and husband, Stanley, of Topsham and Madelyn Merriam, also of Topsham; and several nieces and nephews.
