PORTLAND — The People of Color Fund of the Maine Community Foundation seeks grant proposals for projects related to leadership development, civic engagement and youth training in Maine’s people of color community. The fund is the first in Maine dedicated to the needs of people of color, with a goal of achieving greater racial equity.

This year the People of Color Fund advisory committee has announced two new special areas of grant-making. Thanks to a $50,000 grant from the Maine Health Access Foundation to address health disparities in Maine, the fund will support projects that increase access to, and understanding of, health care for people of color. An additional $35,000 will support programs that provide development opportunities for youth of color.

The People of Color Fund will make project grants and organizational development grants of up to $7,500. The deadline for online applications is March 15.

Organizations eligible for People of Color Fund grants must provide services or support to an identifiable community of color in Maine and have people of color in leadership positions.
