AUBURN — Auburn-Lewiston Municipal Airport officials are looking for new operators to take over the operation’s small cafe.

“It’s busy place, especially on the weekends,” airport assistant Debbie Berube said. “Some people fly in just to go eat. And of course, with the local people coming out to see the planes fly in, it got pretty busy. There were people waiting outside in the lobby to eat.”

The Landing Strip Cafe closed last fall, Berube said. Cafe owners could not reach an agreement with the airport’s board of directors. Berube said the board is interested in a cafe that is open seven days each week for longer hours.

“You get jet people coming in, charter service, they say, ‘Where’s the restaurant?'” she said. “They want to get something to eat or something to take with them. It doesn’t help if it closes early or is closed two days out of the week.”

The airport board has put out a request for proposals on Auburn’s website.

Proposals must be submitted to the city of Lewiston finance office no later than 3 p.m. March 12. Questions should be directed to Airport Director Rick Lanman in writing via email at manager@flytome.com or via postal mail to Lanman at 80 Airport Drive, Auburn, ME 04210.
