1922 – 2014

TAMPA, Fla. — Mary Guthery Lloyd of Brandon, Fla., was born in Wauchula, Fla., on July 2, 1922, and died on Monday, Feb. 24, in Tampa, Fla.

After graduating from Florida State College for Women (now FSU) in 1943, she served in the State Income Tax Department and later as a bookkeeper for Wakulla Springs, Fla.

In 1946, Mary married John Marshall Lloyd; they moved to Warren, N.J., where Mary taught school in the Bound Brook School District, until her retirement in 1991. Mary and John were world travelers; they took trips on the Orient Express and the Concorde, and traveled to Russia, China, Tibet and Hawaii.

She served for a number of years on the Somerset County Family Counseling Service, until she and John retired to Brandon, Fla., in 1991. Some of Mary and John’s happiest moments were spent at their summer home in Paris Hill.

Mary is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Emma and Gordon Mosteller; numerous nieces and nephews, Melody and Richard Vickers (Fair), Barbara McDaniel (Ben), Geren Baird (Donna) and Florence Nichols (James); a cousin, Mary Frances Dodd; and dear friends, Sally Brown, Mary Teasdale, the Layden family and Trudy Carey.

Mary was predeceased by her husband, John, in 2005.
