LEWISTON — Democrat Heidi Brooks is running for State House District 61, which comprises the city’s downtown.
Brooks graduated from Edward Little High School in 1988, attended Boston College and earned a medical degree from New York Medical College. She completed an internship and residency at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton, Mass., and returned to Maine 10 years ago to practice medicine and be closer to her family.
She serves as secretary of the Maine Democratic State Committee and the Androscoggin County Democratic Committee.
Co-chairwoman of the Maine People’s Alliance board, Brooks also serves on the Androscoggin Head Start and Child Care board of directors and Lewiston’s Community Development Block Grant Citizens Advisory Committee.
Brooks is seeking the seat to promote greater equality in the areas of food security, housing, health care and educational opportunities. She held a campaign kickoff event on Saturday, Jan. 18, at the B-Street Community Center in Lewiston.
