OTISFIELD — Selectmen have agreed to erect signs for the Two Ponds Nature Area trail system which links Saturday and Moose ponds.

“The signs have been ordered,” Selectmen Chairman Hal Ferguson said. They will, in part, restrict snowmobile and ATV use of paths.

The signs are expected to be placed at Fox Run Road, Evergreen Drive and a trail off Hidden Lake Road, all of which have access to the Two Ponds trail system.

The signs are being made by Mighty River Signs in Bridgton and will cost about $360.

In December, at the urging of selectmen, the Otisfield Conservation Committee agreed to whittle down the number of signs from 39 to save money and be more practical.

Ferguson said there will be eight large signs listing restrictions and two smaller ones with the Two Ponds name on them at the entrance to the property and at a trail head. There will be four parking signs.

Development of the Two Ponds Nature Area trail system was initiated last year. Officials received a two-year Department of Environmental Protection permit to clear the area.
