1916 – 2014

FALMOUTH — Mary Irene (Ringer) Emerson, 97, of Falmouth and Jupiter, Fla., died Thursday, Feb. 27, in Falmouth.

She was born Dec. 9, 1916, in Laconia, N.H., the daughter of Henry Ernest and Marie Louise (Desmarais) Ringer. After graduation from Laconia High School in 1934, Mary worked in Boston. She married Leslie Emerson in September 1940.

Leslie was a Chevrolet dealer in Somersworth, N.H., and in Lewiston and Auburn, where he owned Emerson Chevrolet; Mary served as treasurer. After his death in 1995, Mary moved from Auburn to Falmouth. She served on the board of the Lewiston-Auburn YWCA and was a member of Jonathan’s Landing Country Club in Jupiter, the Palm Beach Literary Society, the Portland Country Club and the Cumberland Club.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth E. Bradley of Georgetown, Leslie M. Emerson Jr. of Yarmouth, Margaret E. Foorman of Winnetka, Ill., John T. Emerson of Lewiston and James C. Emerson of Auburn. She is also survived by 12grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
