1934 – 2014

AUBURN — Rita Irene Berube Tremblay, 79, of Lewiston, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 22, at Hospice House in Auburn surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Lewiston on April 29, 1934, daughter of the late Arthur and Irene Berube and attended local schools, graduating in 1952 from St. Dominic High School. She married her best friend and the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Tremblay, on June 20, 1953, and celebrated their 60th anniversary this past June.

Rita and Bob lived their entire life in Lewiston where they raised four children and created memories that will last a lifetime. She was a loving and caring homemaker who dedicated her life to her children. She was a communicant of Holy Family Church. Rita was a Girl Scout troop leader as well as a CCD teacher.

Besides her husband, Bob, Rita is survived by her children and their spouses: Diane Fournier of Lewiston; Joyce Gagnon and Paul of Durham; Dan Tremblay and Darlene of Turner; and Susan Canciani and Steve of Connecticut; her 13 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Gertrude Gosselin of Brewer; her brothers, Wilfred Berube of Rockland, and Raymond Berube and his wife, Judy, of Lewiston; her sister-in-law, Rita Tremblay of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice House for their care and compassion during Rita’s last days and her family physician, Dr. Seth Gordon.
