AUGUSTA — Lithgow Public Library will showcase some of the area’s talented artists with two evenings of poetry and music on Thursdays in March and April. The programs will be held in the Reading Room and are free and open to the public.

At 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, poets Carolyn Gelland and Chandler Kanozak and acoustic musician Ed Desjardins will present a program of their original work.

Gelland has published two collections of poems by Main Street Rag. Her first book, “Four-Alarm House,” was published in 2012. Her latest collection, “Dream-Shuttle,” came out last fall to favorable reviews. Gelland and her late husband, the poet Kenneth Frost, moved to rural Maine some years ago in order to read and write in a solitude they could only dream about in New York City where she worked as a Norwegian translator and ran a small art gallery.

Kanozak is a lifelong resident of Manchester and has studied at Boston University, Southern Maine Community College and the University of Maine at Augusta. He has worked as a commercial fisherman in mid-coast Maine and is the proud father of a two-year-old daughter. Kanozak recently published his first collection of poems, “Awake Now, All is Different.”

DesJardins works as a multi-instrumentalist, music producer and recording engineer from his home studio in Readfield. Born into a musical family, his writing style is informed by diverse musical influences and his songs have been described as honest, poignant and thought-provoking. DesJardins released his first full-length solo album “Innerspace” in 2010, and continues to write and perform his music to an ever-growing and appreciative audience.

The April poetry/music event will be held on Thursday, April 24.
