1927 – 2014

AUBURN — Walter Lauri Heikkinen, of Paris, went home to be with his Savior and Lord on Wednesday, March 12, surrounded by his family, at the Hospice House following a brief illness.

He was born Aug. 28, 1927, to the family of Anti Arvi and Esteri Heikkinen of Minot. The family moved to a farm in Paris, where he grew up.

Walter served his country in the United States Naval Services during World War II aboard the USS Montague. On April 3, 1948, he married Pauline Buck of West Paris and resided in Paris over 65 years.

He is survived by his wife, Polly; four children, Richard (and Sandy, deceased) of Florida, Jane of South Paris, Melissa and husband, Roy Blevins, of Connecticut, and Wayne and wife, Sandy, of Ontario; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; two sisters-in law, Eva and Ethel Heikkinen, both of South Paris; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Hilda, Tynne, Hilja, Eva and Aino; and brothers, Eino, Vaino and Toivo.
