LISBON — Town councilors on Monday discussed advertising for a town manager and the qualities they’re looking for, council Chairwoman Lisa Ward said.

The skills and qualities suggested by townspeople at the public workshop on March 11 were nearly the same as those suggested by council members at Monday night’s meeting, Ward said. A list will be posted on the town website.

Councilors also discussed the wording for an advertisement, including whether Lisbon should be described as “midcoast” Maine, like Topsham, or “central” Maine, like Lewiston. They decided on “central” Maine, Ward said.

The council hopes to have a manager by mid-May.

The meeting was originally advertised as an executive session. However, after questions were raised by the Sun Journal, shortly before the meeting it was announced it would be open to the public. No members of the public attended.

Ward said Tuesday that the meeting was made public because the discussion did not involve individual candidates. In the future, however, “we will go into executive session because we will discuss confidential candidate information,” she said.

Monday night’s meeting will be aired at 7 p.m. Friday on public access Channel 7.
