PORTLAND — Chalmers Insurance Group, Lamey Wellehan and R.E. Lowell Lumber have been named finalists for Maine Family Business Awards. Fifteen other companies from across Maine are also finalists.

Chalmers Insurance Group has offices in Bridgton and several other southern Maine towns. Lamey Wellehan has six shoe stores in Maine. R.E. Lowell Lumber is in Buckfield.

Finalists, nominated from within or outside their firms, complete a three-step application before their submissions go to a panel of judges. Those independent jurors select winners based upon business success, positive business and family linkages, contributions to the community and industry, family participation, work environment, communication, innovative business practices or strategies.

The awards ceremony, presented by the Maine Institute for Family-Owned Business in partnership with the law firm Verrill Dana, takes place beginning with networking at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 19, at the Sable Oaks Marriott in South Portland. Awards will be given in seven categories to some of Maine’s most successful companies. It is the 15th anniversary of the event.
