Kudos to the Mt. Blue High School Jazz Band, directed by Karen Beacham, and the Mt. Blue High School Chamber Singers, directed by Carol Shumway. A story in the Sun Journal (March 26) was about their recent trip to Boston to compete in the Worldstrides Heritage Music Festival.

Not only was the band awarded a superior gold rating and Outstanding Band and Adjudicator Award, four band members were also recognized for their performances. They received the Maestro Award for excellence in their craft.

The singers also received a superior gold rating and were invited to participate in an elite series in the largest performance venue at Carnegie Hall.

To top off the wonderful show of talent, the Mt. Blue teachers, chaperones and students were awarded the Spirit of Boston Award, which goes to the school that best represents their school, community, state or province, based on actions and attitudes and how they interact with each other, the staff and adjudicators throughout the weekend.

Bravo to each and every student who participated. They make everyone in Mt. Blue-country proud. How lucky we are in this area to have such talented teachers, directors and caring parents to raise and bring out the best of the children.

Good job and well done. They should all be proud of their accomplishments. I know I am.
