Jesus Party fights child abuse
LEWISTON — April is Child Abuse Awareness Month and thousands of child welfare agencies around the United States, including The Jesus Party Youth Outreach, rally to raise awareness about the important issues of child sexual abuse and physical abuse, maltreatment and neglect.
Every year since 1997 The Jesus Party has participated in the annual “Blue Ribbon Campaign.” In the spring of 1989, a Virginia grandmother began the campaign as a tribute to her 3-year-old grandson who died at the hands of his mother’s abusive boyfriend.
The campaign is a memorial to children who have been touched by abuse and neglect, and a reminder that everyone has a job to do to prevent the maltreatment of children.
The Jesus Party will pass out blue ribbons to children throughout the month. Special music and a time to pray for peace will be provided at the children’s chapel every Friday evening. The Jesus Party is at 291 Bates St. and holds its weekly service for area children every Friday at 6 p.m.
