1939 – 2014

AUBURN — Richard A. Charest, 74, of Lewiston, died on Sunday, April 6, in Auburn, following a long illness.

He was born in Lewiston on June 25, 1939, a son of the late Adrian and Evelyn (Jalbert) Charest, and had been a resident of this community all of his life. He was educated in Lewiston schools. Richard was employed by Bellemoc Shoe for many years, then became self-employed doing home improvements and finally worked for the Auburn School Department, until his retirement.

He was a member of the Montagnard Club, where he played the trumpet in the marching band. Richard enjoyed playing pool, watching boxing and cowboy movies and socializing with old friends at local restaurants and diners. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his wife of 54 years, Lorraine, and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, the former Lorraine Veilleux, whom he married on July 4, 1959, of Lewiston; one son, Donald Charest, of Lewiston; three daughters, Susan Webster of Rochester, N.H., Denise Ouellette and her husband, Dennis, of Topsham and Sandra Reynolds and her husband, Arthur, of Oxford; two sisters, Rachel Cote of Auburn and Jeannette Mieres of Chicago, Ill.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Lisa Charest; one brother, Robert Charest; and one sister, Germaine Lean.
