Three woodsmen from Berlin, N.H., were spending the week-end at Marston’s Corner, Auburn, when arrested on Sunday by City Marshall Taylor. These three men had the promise of a job about Rumford Falls and were to start Monday, In the meantime having no money they were at loss to know where to seek lodging. When they found a deserted house at Marston’s Corner it looked to them like Home Sweet Home, so they set up housekeeping,. They managed to get together five cents with which to purchase bread, and began to enjoy the comforts of home. Residents at Marston’s Corner noticed the arrival of the three and became rather alarmed when they built a fire on Sunday, in front of their abode.

The Auburn Fire Department this forenoon was called upon to perform a rather unusual task. A mother at an Auburn residence notified police that her small baby was stuck in a high chair, and she was unable to free the infant. The AFD squad truck was dispatched to the scene and Deputy Chief Vincent Giberti later reported that the child was none the worse for his experience, except ruffled feelings. He said the baby placed its foot between the padding on the seat and back of the high chair and was unable to pull it back. The firefighter said firemen made use of some “Ivory liquid” to grease the child’s foot and ankle. With a little pressure, the youngster was then freed from his unusual prison.

With an unblemished 14-0 record in the vault and growing marketability tugging at his senses, Lewiston boxer Joey Gamache doesn’t need any added incentive to ward off Roberto Rubaldino’s bold advance in the Lewiston Memorial Armory ring Thursday night. But, yes, he has it, anyway. The 22-year-old Lewiston fighter learned Thursday night that he has finally broken into the rankings of a “major” boxing organization. The United States Boxing Association USBM, a sub-group of the International Boxing Federation (IBF), has ranked Gamache the No. 15 junior lightweight contender in its latest ratings released this week. “This is another big step,” Gamache said.
