Maundy Thursday at United Methodist

AUBURN — Maundy Thursday Service will be held at 6 p.m. on April 17 at the United Methodist Church, 439 Park Ave.

There will be a light dinner following the service.

Good Friday service will be held at 7 p.m. at Calvary UMC in Lewiston. Easter Sunrise Service will also be held at Calvary UMC at 5:45 a.m.

Easter breakfast will be held at Auburn UMC from 7 to 8 a.m. Easter services will be held at 9 and 11 a.m. on Easter Sunday, April 20, at the UMC in Auburn.

LEWISTON — Chapter 1804 of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, at the Ramada Inn, 490 Pleasant St.

Rachel Desgrosseilliers, executive director of Museum L-A of Lewiston and Auburn, will be the guest speaker.

Among other accomplishments, she was the founder of the Great Falls Balloon Festival which brings several million dollars of economic impact to the community each year.

Author to speak at Auburn Library

AUBURN — Author Christina Solak-Goodwin will share from her newest book, “Diary of a Mental Patient,” at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 24, at the Auburn Public Library Androscoggin Community Room.

First diagnosed with bipolar disorder at age 26, Solak-Goodwin was in and out of psychiatric hospitals. However, in 2007 a small hospital in Brunswick gave her hope. Presented in diary format, Solak-Goodwin’s book chronicles one full year of her personal life as she struggles to accept the fact that she has a lifelong mental illness. Her amazing story is one of hope and inspiration.

Quilt show, sale, bazaar in Monmouth

MONMOUTH — The spring quilt show, sale and indoor bazaar will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at the United Church on Main Street, Packard Activity Center and Helen Melledy Hall.

There will be 20 vendors, Monmouth Museum quilt collection, vintage wedding gowns, Downton Abbey tea mats and a silent auction of two lap quilts from the Downton Abbey Andover fabrics collection. There also will be lunch, bake sale, fabric remnants, fiber artwork, yarn, wool, local quilt display, jewelry, DVDs, used books, white elephant, cards, consultants and more.

POLAND — The annual meeting of the directors and officers of the Pine Grove Cemetery Corp. of Poland will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 27, at 67 Strout Road.

New quilting class starts April 29

MONMOUTH — The present quilting class on Tuesday nights has ended. Nancy Ludewig will begin a new one on April 29 which will run until June 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesdays at Packard Activity Center, lower level of the United Church of Monmouth, 778 Main St.

The cost for the eight-week class is $20. All proceeds support programs and maintenance at the United Church. Patterns and instruction available.

The offerings will be three fold: work of UFO’s (unfinished projects); create with “layer cakes” (10-inch pieces of fabric) to create classic blocks using the “disappearing method” and learning to applique, using fusible web.
