NEW VINEYARD — A local man was arrested Wednesday night on a fugitive from justice charge after being stopped because of a loud exhaust on his van, Franklin County Lt. David Rackliffe said.

Deputy Matt Brann initially tried to stop the Dodge Caravan on Route 27, but the driver turned onto a dead-end road in an attempt to elude police, he said. Brann learned driver Stephen P. Bolton, 41, of New Vineyard, had arrest warrants from St. Louis, Mo., charging failure to appear on a motor vehicle theft charge and a heroin possession charge, Rackliffe said.

Missouri officials have agreed to extradite Bolton and will come get him, he said.

Bolton is being held at the Franklin County jail in Farmington while waiting to go before a judge.
