- The obstacle course of barrels and sawhorses the city of Lewiston had erected on Main Street between Mountain Avenue and Riverside Street had nothing to do with a new construction project. The city set up the barrels to slow motorists down and guide them around the largest of the potholes “because there are just so many of them,” according to Megan Bates, Lewiston’s deputy director of highway and open spaces. Overnight Thursday, workers swept the street, and on Friday morning, filled the holes with patch. The barrels were removed Friday afternoon, and city workers will sweep the street again to remove debris from the repairs.
