JAY — A Dixfield man is accused of driving under the influence after his van struck a pole and knocked out power to the Morse Hill Road area late Thursday.
Officer Mike Mejia arrested Benjamin Welch, 35, on charges of operating under the influence and failure to report an accident by quickest means, Sgt. Troy Young said Friday.
Mejia arrived at the scene but Welch was not there, he said. Mejia found Welch walking farther down the road.
The utility pole and wires were knocked down, Young said. The front of the vehicle received damage.
Welch was taken to Franklin County jail in Farmington.
Nine minutes before the Morse Hill Road accident was reported, Young responded to an accident on Route 133, also known as Franklin Road.
Jasmine Enman, 18, of Livermore Falls was heading south in her 2002 Hyundai Accent, which went into a ditch, Young said.
She complained of neck and head pain and was taken by a NorthStar EMS ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington to be checked out, he said.
Her car had minor front-end damage, he said.
