Discussion continues about the petition that was circulated in Buckfield to stop the process of withdrawal from RSU 10. The idea of the petition came about because the towns of Sumner and Hartford chose not to be involved in the reformation of the old SAD 39.
When Buckfield residents learned that the Withdrawal Committee was considering alternatives, such as closing the school, they expressed their concerns, both to committee members and others, saying that those actions were not what they had intended.
I think that the origin and circulation of the petition should be seen as an honest and ethical response to voter concerns, rather than being viewed with anger. It is a logical continuation of the transparent manner with which the withdrawal committee has functioned.
