NORWAY — The First Universalist Church of Norway will hold the following services.
May 4, “Spring Cleaning: A Metaphor for Life,” with Pat Harris. At some point in our lives, we may find ourselves needing to sort through the experiences of a lifetime, trying to make sense of the burdens we carry — real and imagined. This reflection honors the spirit and memories of the speaker’s grandmother’s obsessions with spring cleaning, and uses those memories as a metaphor for cleaning and sorting out the debris of a lifetime of living.
May 11, “Mystical Experiences,” with The Rev. Fayre Stephenson. Mystical experiences are an area of human existence that Unitarian Universalists don’t talk about much. Scientists claim to find biological and psychiatric indicators to explain such experiences and yet rational people continue to report experiences of mystery and transcendence. At this service, using Barbara Ehrenreich’s new book, “Living with a Wild God,” as the guide, the audience will explore the phenomenon of mystical experience in relation to Unitarian Universalism.
May 18, Bernice Martin will present “Reflections on Spring: Creation at Play.” After the long, cold, dark of winter comes the unfolding promise of spring. Celebrate the joy of new life emerging and the gift of possibility.
May 25, “Walking Together: Welcoming New Members,” with The Rev. Fayre Stephenson. During this service new members will be welcomed into the congregation. The service will also look back at the congregation’s heritage to explore diversity and what holds members together as Unitarian Universalists.
Anyone interested in joining the Norway UU Church may contact the church. The public is always welcome to visit without joining.
