LEWISTON — Bates graduate and author Thomas Goetz will talk about his latest book, “The Remedy,” which traces the careers of Sherlock Holmes and scientist Robert Koch, who showed the world that germs cause disease, 7:30 p.m., Muskie Archives, free, public welcome. LA Times called “The Remedy” a fascinating page-turner. Goetz is former executive editor at WIRED magazine and a health care innovator. Book signing following talk.

FRIDAY, May 2
LEWISTON — “One City, Many Stories” performances to provide a window into cultures of its two largest communities, Somali and Franco-American. Author and poet Farah Mohamed, who tells traditional tales from Somalia, will share his poetry and stories, some traditional and others re-written for a new generation of Somali-Americans, 7 p.m., Lewiston Public Library, all welcome. Upcoming: May 9, Franco-American musician story teller Michael Parent.
SATURDAY, May 3
AUBURN — Fourth annual “Touch A Truck,” 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at which the young and young at heart will have a chance to see, touch, interact and learn about dozens of cool vehicles — trucks of all kinds, motorcycles, emergency vehicles. Free, at Central Maine Community College on Turner Street, rain or shine, sponsored by Advocates for Children. Adult supervision is required, cameras recommended.
