WEST BATH (AP) — Police say a husband and wife from Nobleboro were injured in a West Bath motorcycle crash.

The Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Department said a motorcycle operated by Gerald Gifford, with Gayle Gifford as his passenger, was headed north on State Road just after 5 p.m. Sunday when it slowed suddenly to avoid a turning car.

No collision occurred but the Giffords were thrown to the ground. Both were wearing helmets.

Both required hospitalization but their injuries do not appear life-threatening.

Police said the cause remains under investigation, and although speed does not appear to be a factor, “driver inattention” may be to blame.
