Seniors to have meeting, dinner

BETHEL — The Bethel Senior Citizens Club will hold a meeting and dinner at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, at the Roosters Roadhouse.

The menu choice is Yankee pot roast or baked stuffed haddock. Cost is $13.

Reservations must be made before Thursday, May 1, by calling Arlene Lowell at 824-2877.

History of beekeeping in Maine

MEXICO — Western Maine Beekeepers will host Matt Scott, speaking on “The History of Beekeeping in Maine” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, at Region 9 School.

Scott has been a Maine beekeeper for 51 years. His background is in aquatic science as a fisheries and water quality biologist. He was one of the founders of the Maine Beekeepers Association and is a past president. He was president of the Eastern Apicultural Society in 1983 and is a life member. Scott is a member of the Florida Beekeepers Association and the American Beekeeping Federation.

He has a BS and MA from the University of Maine with 15 hours of academic study in the science of entomology, including bee courses. He likes to communicate the science of bees and their environment as perhaps the most single important species of insect to humankind.

Rumford Seniors plan luncheon

PERU — Rumford Senior will hold a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 5, at the old Peru School. The menu will be creamy broccoli soup and scalloped potato-ham casserole, drink and dessert.

Yard sale to benefit Smile Fund

BETHEL — West Parish Congregational Church, UCC, will hold its annual yard sale to benefit the Smile Fund from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3.

The fund aids those who are in need of restorative dental work and lack the financial resources to undertake treatment.

Bargain items will include toys, books, household items and plants. The church is located on Church Street.
