LIVERMORE FALLS — Voters in RSU 73 on Tuesday narrowly approved an $18.89 million budget for 2014-15. The unofficial tally was 263-251.

“Livermore carried the day,” Superintendent Dr. Robert Wall said.

The majority of voters in that town approved the budget, while Livermore Falls and Jay voters defeated it.

The unofficial results were: Livermore, 80 yes, 49 no; Livermore Falls, 58 yes, 75 no; Jay, 125 yes, 127 no.

The budget is about 1.7 percent more than the current fiscal year.

“We’re pleased and thankful,” Wall said. “The important piece is the budget has passed and it provides the resources to keep the (educational) services in place.”

Residents at the districtwide vote April 8 overwhelmingly approved the budget. At that meeting, residents approved adding a reading teacher and eliminating an administrative support position at Spruce Mountain High School in Jay.

A new superintendent is expected to be named at the May 8 board meeting.

Wall is retiring at the end of June after serving RSU 73 since 2011. Prior to that, he was superintendent of the former Jay School Department for several years.
