DEAR SUN SPOTS: We are very grateful for your help in promoting our annual fundraiser. Catholic Financial Life, formerly Union Saint-Jean-Baptiste Chapter N413, is inviting area residents to join them in our annual family bottle drive to benefit Fr. Marc Boisvert’s Hope Village in Haiti.

FreeTheKids.org is a nonprofit organization founded by Father Marc, who has dedicated his life to Haitian orphans. Project Hope (Pwoje Espwa) takes care of more than 800 orphans, providing shelter, medical care, education and a soup kitchen.

Donations are down, so your help is desperately needed. To find out more about Father Marc’s orphanage, just check out his blog at freethekids.org

With the help of area donors, our chapter is hoping to raise enough money to receive matching funds from Catholic Financial Life. Last year, our joint efforts brought in $7,700. We need your continued support.

Please save your bottles between May 1 and 31. Kindly redeem your bottles and send us a check by June 7. Cash donations are also very much appreciated.

Father Marc Boisvert, OMI, is a Lewiston native. Let’s support his mission. You can make a difference in the lives of these poor orphans.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: We are writing to ask for help from our communities. We are seeking four-ply yarn for our volunteer knitters, and we need more volunteers from Androscoggin County to work with our elderly clients who are waiting for someone to visit them, provide companionship and to help them with their errands. Four of our seniors who are waiting for volunteer support live in Lisbon Falls and would love to have a volunteer from their community.

We are in need of four-ply yarn of all colors, in good condition, to support our volunteers who are busy knitting hats, mittens, baby items and afghans, which in turn are given to the needy of all ages in Androscoggin County. The yarn is donated to SEARCH and given out to our knitters as needed.

SEARCH (Seek Elderly Alone, Renew, Courage, & Hope) is a program of Catholic Charities. We have wonderful volunteers who are matched to our elderly clients. They provide three to four hours a week to a senior by providing home visits or by assisting them with transportation for their errands. If you are interested in volunteering with the elderly, we would love to talk to you about joining our program and volunteering with us!

For more information about donating yarn or becoming a volunteer with us, please call our office at 784-0157. Thank you for your donations, and we hope that you will join our program by becoming a volunteer and help make a difference in the life of a senior in your community! With gratitude. — Wendy Russell, program director, wrussell@ccmaine.org
