HARTFORD — Police, wardens and volunteers searched for five hours Thursday night before a missing 5-year-old was found at about 10 p.m.

The boy was found just as the search was growing larger. Oxford County deputies were assisted by Maine State Police, the Maine Warden Service and others before the search ended.

Several Hartford residents had been waiting to volunteer before the search ended, according to a woman who lives in the area. Several had left their home lights on in hopes the boy would see them from the woods. Others were prepared to bring coffee, food and supplies to the searchers if the ordeal had gone on longer.

The boy, identified as Demetrious Chase Landers, had been lost in a wooded area between Main Street and Stetson Road. A neighbor said he was found in that area five hours after he went missing.

Police and wardens had been searching with at least one dog before the child was found. The boy, who lives about 1 mile north of the Hartford Town Office, was unhurt, according to a neighbor, although he was being examined for possible hypothermia.

Town selectmen, gathered for their regular meeting at the Town Office, had been advised of the situation. Several people had been sharing information on the town Facebook page throughout the ordeal.
