CARTHAGE — New England Celtic Arts will present Ari and Mia Friedman as part of the ongoing Patriot Renewables Emerging Artist Series at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, at Skye Theatre. A jam session kicks off at 6:15 p.m.

The Boston-based sister group Ari & Mia reference the traditions of Southern and Northeastern fiddle music and the early American songbook to create a realm where their own compositions cross paths with older traditions. Add a sprinkling of classical and early jazz influences plus intricate sisterly harmonies and the result is a unique hybrid sound that is both joyous and intimate.

Portland’s Bethany Waickman will accompany the duo with guitar. Waickman is no stranger to Skye Theatre and has appeared regularly in different New England based bands and is a familiar player on the Contra Dance circuit.
