FAIRFIELD (AP) — Family members of a Maine first-grader who died of the flu in 2012 say they are shocked that vandals appear to be targeting the little girl’s grave site.
Tabitha Souzer, the mother of 6-year-old Avery Lane, said when she arrived at the Fairfield grave on Sunday, a shepherd’s hook that held wind chimes was gone while the chimes were broken and on the ground. Pinwheels were gone, and a glass turkey, a porcelain cat and an iron bench had been moved.
She told the Morning Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1iWEsQt ) she fixed things and went home.
When she returned Monday, the bench had been thrown into the woods, the turkey smashed, while the wind chimes and shepherd’s hook were gone.
It appears no other graves were damaged.
Police are offering a $350 reward.
