1944 – 2014

AUBURN — Robert J. Morissette, 70, of Taylor Pond, died peacefully on Sunday, May 4, surrounded by his family, who lovingly cared for him during his last few months.

Bob, as he was affectionately known, was born in Lewiston on April 23, 1944, to Emile and Alice (Therrien) Morissette.

He attended St. Peter’s school and was a graduate of St. Dominic High School in 1962 where he was a founding member of the Key Club organization. While in high school, he apprenticed with his mentor, Pere Moreau, who taught him the electrical trade. From there, he worked for Dom J. Moreau and Sons. He then established a maintenance program for heating and refrigeration for the McDonald’s Corporation in Maine and New Hampshire. For 35 years, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service in many capacities ranging from a boiler inspector for the state of Maine, a VMF supervisor in Portland and finally coming back to Auburn where he retired. He was a jack of all trades, and his work ethic and values were inspirational to his family.

Bob was an active member of his church, school and community. He was a devout member of St. Peter and Paul Church of the Prince of Peace Parish, where as a child, he served as an altar boy under Brother Albert’s guidance. Bob was a strong advocate of Catholic education and served as a member of the school board at St. Peter’s. As a lifelong learner, he valued his experience with the Dale Carnegie program, and he influenced his children’s desire for higher education to develop their fullest potential. In his community, Bob served as a member of the Model Cities Council, a past president of the Lewiston Landlord’s Association and served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Bob was blessed with many God given talents and abilities. He was a good, kind, humble and generous man, who loved people and loved to laugh. His laugh was contagious, his storytelling legendary and his love of family knew no bounds. His personality was such that people were drawn to him—the kind of guy who could talk to anyone about anything at any time. Bob lived life to the fullest, and his motto was “laugh every day.”

Bob recently celebrated his 70th birthday and celebrates his 45th wedding anniversary with his bride this month. He was a fierce protector of his beloved wife and six children.

He is survived by the love of his life and best friend, Pauline (Roy) Morissette; his six children and their families, Rachel and Christopher Weymouth, Dr. Claire Morissette and husband, John Girardin, Dr. Brenda Joly and husband, Kevin Joly, Nicole and Nathaniel Benoit, Paul Emile and Gloria Morissette and Jenny and Thomas Meyer; 15 grandchildren, Jane and Lily Weymouth, Grace and Noah Girardin, Zachary and Max Joly, Rita and Marie Benoit, Jacques, Joseph, Jacob and Jasmine Morissette and Violet, Fiona and Oliver Meyer; his sister, Mrs. Yolande Cloutier and her husband, Gerald; brother-in-law, Paul Gastonguay; several nieces and nephews, as well as a sister-in-law, Rita Houle (Matante), with whom he shared a special connection.
