LEWISTON — Doug Bishopp, owner of New England Defensive Training, will hold a three-evening class at the YWCA of Central Maine designed especially for women of all ages. The class begins Monday, May 12, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., and will run for three weeks. No class will be held on Monday, May 26, Memorial Day.
This course is designed to build awareness about personal security, identify threats in possibly dangerous situations, recognize the signs of a confrontation and using verbal diffusion techniques to de-escalate the confrontation before it becomes physical.
This class will help participants to understand what perpetrators look for and how to prevent becoming a victim by avoiding situations and using one’s sixth sense. In addition to verbal techniques, Bishopp will teach some self-defense techniques so participants are asked to wear comfortable clothing.
Cost is $25 for the entire course of three classes. Registration is limited. Call the YWCA of Central Maine at 795-4050 to sign up today.
