Basketball sessions at Bates College

Bates College men’s assistant basketball coach Josh LaPrell will be holding some basketball skills sessions for three weeks. Basketball skills sessions are designed to improve your son or daughter’s performance on the court.

The camp is designed to improve each players fundamental skills, improve in-game decision making, and increase players confidence within themselves.

LaPrell is entering his third season at Bates and brings over 10 years experience coaching youth basketball. Frank Perry will also be assisting with the camps and he brings over 10 years experience coaching youth basketball.

The camp runs on Sunday evenings, from 6 -8 p.m. on the following Sundays: 5/18, 6/1, & 6/8. The camp is being held at Bates College. Boys and girls in the 2nd-eight grade are able to attend. Cost for the camp is $75 for all 3 sessions or $25 a session. We are also offering a $25 sibling discount as well.

First girls’ golf fair in Maine

PORTLAND — The First Tee of Maine® will hold the first ever informational golf event in Maine for girls of all ages and abilities on June 22 at Riverside South Golf Course.

The free Girls Golf Fair, held from 1 to 4 p.m. rain or shine, will include fun games, prizes, music, crafts, give-aways, snacks, informational hand-outs and instruction by local golf professionals. Girls must register at www.thefirstteemaine.org or by calling 207-809-9030.

The Girls Golf Fair is aimed at growing the game of golf by introducing non-golfers to the sport in a low-key, fun environment and encouraging girls who already play golf to continue with this lifelong sport.

Challenger British Soccer returns

Challenger British Soccer Camp returns to Harrison’s Radr Sports Complex in Harrison on Aug. 11-15. All youth soccer players in the Lake Region And Oxford Hills area and beyond are invited to attend the camp.

Each day includes individual foot skills, technical drills, tactical practices, small-sided games, coached scrimmages, and a daily tournament.

Equally important, the Challenger coaching staff provides your child with lessons in self-discipline, good sportsmanship and respect for others and for the game. Campers will enjoy a daily program of Camp break activities and an end of camp graduation party.

Each camper will receive a free British soccer ball, a British soccer camp shirt, a giant fold-out soccer poster and a personal skills evaluation. Sign up online 45 days or more prior to June 2 and get this awesome British soccer game jersey ($39 value) for free.

Tainter’s Fight For a Cure

In honor of Scott Alan Tainter, a multiple event day to raise money for Brain Cancer Awareness. All proceeds will be donated the The Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care to help patients diagnosed with brain cancer.

The event is sponsored by Rowe Ford Auburn and Sullivan Tire. All events will be held at Maple Lane Golf Course, River Road, Livermore, Maine.

The event will feature:

• Five-man golf scramble 8:30 shotgun start. Call 897-3770 to register your team for $50 a person.

• 5k run/walk at 8:30. Registation is at 7 and costs $15 a person paid at registration. (woodcocksgsp@myfairpoint.net)

• Dance 8-midnight at Maple Lane Golf Course. The disc jockey is Rob Leclerc. It costs $10 per person.
