NORWAY — The Calderwood Consort will present two concerts of early music, marking the Consort’s 38th year of performing throughout Maine and parts of New England and New York state.
“Ma Fin Est Mon Commencement,” (“My End Is My Beginning”) will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 16, at Cumstom Hall, 796 Main St., Monmouth, and at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at Norway Episcopal Church, 35 Paris St., Norway.
The program includes Machaut’s 14th-century secular motet by that name along with a church motet from Worcester Cathedral, England.
Following compositions include 15th-century Burgundian and French chansons by Busnois, Dufay and the Englishman Dunstable; medieval and Renaissance dances from Germany, England and Spain, as well as 16th- and 17th-century caccias, fantasias and madrigals, sung and played on replica instruments of viols, vielle, harp, recorders, crumhorns and percussion.
