FARMINGTON — A malfunctioning motor caused a small fire in ductwork in the Emergency Department at Franklin Memorial Hospital on Friday morning, Farmington fire Chief Terry Bell said.
No one was injured.
Hospital maintenance staff quickly put the fire out with extinguishers before eight firefighters arrived, Bell said. Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to check for heat in the ductwork above an office area.
The Emergency Department was evacuated and staff temporally provided services in the adjacent Outpatient Department, FMH spokeswoman Jill Gray said in a release.
Some smoke initially spread to other areas of the facility, but it was quickly dispersed, Gray said.
Bell said the only damage he knew of was to the electrical motor.
