1925 – 2014

RUMFORD — Robert M. Gardner, 88, of Parker Street, Mexico, passed away on Tuesday, May 13, at Rumford Community Home, following a long illness.

He was born in Auburn on Dec. 6, 1925, a son of Joseph and Georgianna (Marcoux) Gardner. Bob was educated in Auburn schools and was a graduate of Edward Little High School. He served in the U.S. Navy on the West Coast during World War II.

Bob was employed by Oxford Paper Co. for 40 years and was a communicant of Parish of the Holy Savior. He was a member of the American Legion, the VFW, the Rumford Eagles and the Sons of Italy Bocce Ball Club. Bob was an avid bowler and horseshoe and bingo player; he also enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing pool.

Surviving are his eight children, Robert J. Gardner and wife, Mary, of Brewer, Georgie M. Gormley and husband, Tim, of Yarmouth, Arthur P. Gardner and wife, Cheryl, of Mexico, Cynthia J. Bernard and husband, Lawrence, of Rumford, Roger G. Gardner and wife, Pamela, of Auburn, twins, Michael T. Gardner of Greene and Mark A. Gardner and wife, Janet, of Rumford and Michelle R. Fergola and husband, Robert, of Mexico; two brothers, Roger Gardner of Marysville, Wash., and Roland Gardner and wife, Loretta, of Seattle, Wash.; 12 grandchildren, Carrie, Jill, Jonathan, Brian, Greg, Matt, Zach, Travis, Erin, Joey, Dan and Ryan; seven great-grandchildren, Gabe, Ethan, Dillon, Brooke, Jayden, Blake and Ellie Rose; and a special friend, Carol Gallant.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Rose; four sisters, Cecile, Jeanne, Simmone and Lucille; and four brothers, Lucien, Armand, Maurice and Alfred.
