Public works event location changed

AUBURN — A location change for the Auburn Public Works event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May, 17, has been announced

Activities will still occur, but they have been relocated to the Public Service Building at 296 Gracelawn Road from the scheduled location of the Auburn Mall due to the inclement weather forecast.

Families are encouraged to bring their children to explore dump trucks and graders and see demonstrations and displays by public service from Auburn. Also on tap will be toy hard hats, balloons, giveaways and games.

Ordination canceled due to health issues

NEW PORTLAND — The ordination and installation of Susan Thomas as pastor of Fairbanks Union Church, New Portland Community Church and North New Portland Community Church has been canceled at the request of Thomas, due to health issues. It will not take place as planned for Saturday, May 17.

WF&G car wash rescheduled

WILTON — Due to expected weather conditions, the Wilton Fish & Game Assoc. Youth League Car Wash, scheduled for this weekend, has been rescheduled to next weekend, Saturday, May 24, from 9  a.m. to 3 p.m. at Franklin Savings Bank in Wilton, and Sunday, May 25, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Jay Fire Station.

The youths will also have a bottle drive in the Wilton and Farmington area on Tuesday, May 27, from 4 to 8 p.m.

New BSN Collaborative Program

AUGUSTA — UMA and UMFK have opened admissions to a new Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Collaborative Program. As the BSN is becoming the preferred educational credential for registered nurses, UMA has combined resources with UMFK to help students earn the credential in the Augusta region.

An information session will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, May 19, in Katz 5 on the Augusta Campus. The session will be available to watch via videostream at http://www.uma.edu/nursing.htmlthe following day.

Park Friends hold plant sale

GRAY — The Friends of the Maine Wildlife Park annual plant sale will take place from Saturday, May 24, through Memorial Day, Monday, May 26.

This year’s fundraising is specifically for a new and more spacious Canada lynx exhibit, currently under construction.

This year plants will be sold in the parking lot from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and no admission fee will be required. On Monday plants will continue to be sold, but will be set up inside the park at the Friends Snack Shack.

March Against Monsanto: Gathering to discuss food quality

PORTLAND — Maine passed the Label GMO law and a public gathering to discuss the quality or lack of quality in foods and the right to know what’s in it will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24.

Animal welfare fund grants available

PORTLAND — The Maine Community Foundation’s Belvedere Animal Welfare Fund is offering grants to organizations that address population control for cats and dogs.

The program, further supported by the Doree Taylor Charitable Foundation, awards grants for activities related to population control or management.

Capacity-building grants also are available to help strengthen animal welfare organizations. Last year the grant program awarded nearly $83,000 in grants that ranged from $3,000 to $20,000.
