Museum Hike-A-Thon moved to May 28

RANGELEY — The Wilhelm Reich Museum had to postpone the “Hike-A-Thon” on the trails at Orgonon on Saturday, May 17, because of rain. It has been rescheduled to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, and will benefit its Hands-On Children’s Activity Program.

Prizes and refreshment will be included at the museum’s Conference Center on Dodge Pond Road where the Hike-A-Thon will start.

Seminar slated on Medicare options

INDUSTRY — “Understanding Medicare and Your Options,” sponsored by Industry Community Kitchen, will be held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday, May 22, at the Industry Town Hall, Route 43.

Car wash, bottle drive dates moved

JAY/WILTON — The Wilton Fish & Game Association Youth League Car Wash, set for May 17 and 18, has been rescheduled to 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at Franklin Savings Bank in Wilton, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 25, at the Jay Fire Station.

The youth will also have a bottle drive in the Wilton and Farmington area from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 27.

Ladies Spring Brunch at church

NEW PORTLAND — “Beauty From Ashes” is the title of the Ladies Spring Brunch being held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at the Western Mountains Baptist Church.

The theme is based on the scripture from Isaiah 61:3, “….He will give beauty for ashes; joy instead of mourning; praise instead of heaviness.”

There will be music, a guest speaker and fellowship. Debi Staier, ministry leader of the Women’s Ministry at the church, said, “There will be delicious food for both body and soul, so bring a friend.”

School offers course on local plants

TEMPLE —  Koviashuvik Local Living School will offer a course, “Wild Greens for the Common Table,” from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 24, rescheduled from last week.

Participants will learn about local plants, feed a family and connect spirit to the springtime. Plants will include Trout Lily, Colt’s Foot, Chickweed, Violet, Dandelion, Fiddleheads, Knotweed, Basswood, Stinging Nettle, Lambs’ Quarters, Sorrel, Burdock, Indian Cucumber and Cattail.

The class will culminate with open fire cooking and a three-course “wild” lunch. Plants are taught with an emphasis on observation skills that will enable people to continue gathering them safely.

Library salutes Wayne’s veterans

WAYNE — “Those Who Served –  A Salute to Wayne’s Veterans,” will open from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 24, at the Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road, hosted by the Cary Memorial Library.

The exhibit, about the men and women of Wayne who have served in the armed forces, includes photographs, information, letters and memorabilia. The exhibit will also be open from noon to 2 p.m. Monday May 26, Memorial Day, and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 7.
