HEBRON — The Hebron Historical Society will host a reading by Auburn author Annette Vance Dorey at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at the Hebron Town Office, society president Bruce Conant said Wednesday afternoon.

Conant said that Dorey will be reading from her book, “Maine Mothers Who Murdered 1875 to 1925: Doing Time in State Prison,” a book that gives an in-depth look at women in Maine’s early criminal justice and corrections systems.

“When she wrote her first book, we invited her to the Hebron Historical Society, and that program was really popular with our members and residents,” Conant said. “She’s spoken at several historical societies across the state since then, and we wanted to invite her back to read from her newest book.”

Although “Maine Mothers Who Murdered” was released in 2012, Conant said that he is still looking forward to inviting Dorey, and that many of the members with the historical society have not yet read the book.

“She’s a great speaker who always puts passion into her presentations,” Conant said. “She always has funny stories to share, so we’re glad to invite her back to the Hebron Historical Society.”

Dorey has also written the book “‘Miss Dr. Lucy’ and Maine’s Pioneering Female Physicians, 1850s–1920.”

According to her website, she served as a museum director of education, a historical society board member and as a volunteer in literacy programs. In 2011, she volunteered in Lithuania, teaching English language and methodology to teachers.
