JAY — Memorial Day services on Monday, May 26, will include services at war memorials in Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls prior to the parade kicking off at 10 a.m. from Memco on Route 4.

The parade will march to Livermore Falls, making stops along the route at veterans memorials.

The theme of this year’s parade is “Honor and Remember Operation Overlord,” the 70th anniversary of D-Day during World War II.

The parade marshal is World War II veteran Athanase “Tenhouse” Couture of Jay. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943. His military duty included serving overseas in New Guinea, the Netherlands and the Philippines. He earned several medals for his service, according to a news release.

The parade lineup will be at 9 a.m. The lineup is expected to include floats, the RSU 73 band, patriotic music and more.

Veterans are invited to step into the parade anywhere along the route or ride on a veterans trailer.

Also expected to join the parade are Scouts, 4-H members, school clubs, sports teams, church groups, civic leaders, kids on bikes and public safety representatives.

Along the route there will be stops at Chisholm Square at the Jay War Memorial for a service and placement of wreaths. Other stops are Richardson Cemetery, Grand Army of the Republic Monument, Geneva Hodgkins Memorial Park, formerly known as Union Park, and the Fire, Police, Emergency Medical Services Monument, all in Livermore Falls.

Memorial Day services that will be held before and after the parade are:

Livermore Falls: Veterans will hold a Memorial Day service at 7 a.m. at the Livermore Falls Memorial Bridge on Route 4.

Livermore: Veterans will hold a Memorial Day service at 7:20 a.m. at the Livermore Veterans Memorial on Route 4.

Jay: There will be a Memorial Day service at 7:45 a.m. at the Jay POW/MIA Bridge on Riley Road.

Jay: A Memorial Day service will be held at 8:15 a.m. at the Jay Hill Cemetery, off Route 4.

Jay: A service will be held at 8:45 a.m. at the VFW Post 3335.

Jay: Memorial Day Parade lineup is at 9 a.m. at Memco on Route 4. The parade will kick off at 10 a.m., stopping at veterans memorials in both Jay and Livermore Falls along the route.

Fayette: A Memorial Day service will be held at 12:15 p.m. at the Fayette Memorial at the Fayette Town Office on Route 17.

Leeds: A Memorial Day service will be held at 1:15 p.m. at the Leeds Memorial in Leeds Center, corner of Route 106 and Church Road.
