1918 – 2014

PORTLAND — Lucienne C. Levesque, 96, died Wednesday, May 21, at Seaside Nursing Home in Portland, with her family by her side.

Born in Lille on Feb. 4, 1918, she was a daughter of Emile and Laura Cyr Doucette. Soon after her birth, when Lucienne’s mother died, her aunt and uncle, Adelard and Laura Doucette Morin, lovingly took her in and raised her. The family moved to Lewiston shortly thereafter and Lucienne lived most of her life there, where she attended St. Peter’s School and was a communicant of Saints Peter and Paul Church.

Lucienne was a whiz with a sewing machine and earned a living stitching sheets, blankets and pillow cases for West Point Pepperell and Bates Manufacturing, retiring in 1985. For many years, she created much of her own clothing and later enjoyed quilting blankets and bedspreads — one of which kept her comfortable during her final hours of life.

She was a member of several charitable organizations, including Les Dames de Charite and Les Marchandes de Bonheur of Lewiston. In her retirement years, she often knitted hats and other articles for Catholic Charities of Maine. She also enjoyed candle-pin bowling and competed in the Lewiston-Auburn Senior Citizen League for many years. She was a skilled pinochle player and organized and participated in many local card parties.

She is survived by her son, Daniel and his wife, Mindy Beller, of Falmouth; grandson, Derek Levesque, of Lewiston; granddaughter, Bess Beller-Levesque, of Somerville, Mass.; and three special nieces, Carol Bouchard Roberts of Palm Coast, Fla., Janice Bouchard Gawrys of Lisbon and Jacqueline Bouchard Long of Turner. In addition, she served in a motherly role for a nephew, Ronald Morin, of Lewiston.

She was predeceased by biological siblings, Celina Doucette Swift, Germaine Doucette Corbin, Estelle Doucette Parr, Leon Doucette and Paul Doucette; and Morin family siblings, Joseph Morin and Rita Morin Bouchard.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Seaside Nursing Home in Portland for the exceptional and loving care they provided Lucienne during her five-year stay.
