The luminary ceremony at River Valley Relay For Life is one of the most beautiful symbols of Relay.
Bags are bought in honor of or in memory of a person who has had or is battling cancer. Bags are carefully placed around the track by volunteers prior to the blessing of the luminaries and the reading of the names.
A quiet hush rolls over the field as people walk around the track remembering or celebrating their loved ones.
The ceremony begins at 9 p.m. Bags can be purchased from any team member, or at the track on June 6. Many people are choosing to take their bags home to personalize them. For more information, call Andrea at 207-357-8621 or Nancy at 207-364-7893.
